Practice sessions are held in a quiet area of a scholarly library. The group usually consists of five to eight participants, mostly employees of Hebrew Union College--Christians, Jews, Buddhists and those of no religious preference. We sit in comfortable chairs and practice for about half-an-hour. After that, people are free to go, while I remain to answer questions and give further instruction.

In addition to leading a practice group at the Klau Library, I meet with individuals at various venues to teach and to discuss practice. In the fall of 2018, I am leading a practice group at the Cincinnati Jewish Community Center on Tuesdays in late October, November and December from 6:00-7:00pm which focuses on Wisdom and Compassion practices through the lens of the Jewish wisdom traditions.

I first heard Lama John’s teachings in 2003 via cassette tape. I knew immediately that my previous twenty-plus years of practices were just preparation (ngondro) for these teachings. I experienced an immediate opening of my heart to lovingkindness and compassion, and an increased ability to act towards others with these capacities. After eight years of practicing these teachings and attending five week-long courses taught by Lama John, I asked to become a teacher under the aegis of the Foundation for Active Compassion.
