FAC in Community

Here are some of the members of the Foundation for Active Compassion (FAC) Community describing how these practices are helping them in their daily life, in their work, and in their contributions to well being of others.

SANDRA TALANSKY
CANCER SURVIVOR SUPPORT
POLLENZA, ITALY

In my work as a psychotherapist, I teach and utilize the Natural Wisdom and Compassion practice with my private clients, with the psychologists and social workers I supervise, and with volunteer groups that I facilitate. Presently, I am conducting an eight-week workshop with an association of women who have or have had breast cancer, who have formed a group to support one another, other women in hospitals undergoing treatment and surgery as well as their family members. The women have shared with me their fears of becoming physically dependent on others and of death, their sense of loneliness and of anger, especially when members of their group have a recurrence, undergo chemotherapy or die. They have shared their sense of not knowing what to do or say to terminally ill women/friends and their families. Before learning the NWC meditation, they lacked skillful means to deal with their emotions. The women told me that since practicing NWC, they have a real sense of sisterhood, feel more courageous to look at their fears, and are more able to open their hearts with empathy to help others.

I embody the Natural Wisdom and Compassion practice in my own life by every morning dedicating the day ahead to the welfare of all beings without exception, praying that they are free of suffering. I request that my spiritual benefactors help me to maintain an open and compassionate heart (my portal to wisdom) so I can be authentically present to my clients and more able to help them clearly perceive and transform their suffering. In my day-to-day interactions I try to see the basic goodness in each being, without judgments, and know that we are all One, seeking freedom from our unsatisfactory lives, and wanting to be loved. Such joy!! Emaho!! I am full of gratitude to Lama John for offering these teachings.
